I prioritise building the student´s confidence to speak the language. Accuracy is important but in order to achieve it, practice is esencial. From my personal experience, we can all we fluent at a second language, it only depends on loosing the fear to make mistakes and a lot of practice.
I give the students as much talking time as possible, discussing topics that are relevant and interesting them, and then I provide guidance on how to improve his/her grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Fluency can only be reached through try and error.
In terms of materials, I use very up-to-date books with loads fun activities as well as authentic materials such as videos, audios and articles.
